Protect Your Handguns With A Gun Safe
Owning a handgun or pistol for personal protection is an option that many people choose. Keeping handguns and pistols safe and secure when not in use is essential and part of being a responsible gun owner. In many states and countries proper and secure storage of handguns and pistols is required under the law, so having a gun safe on the premises is a must.
If the only weapon that you own is handgun or you want to keep your handguns in a different location than your hunting weapons - having a smaller, compact type of safe just makes sense. Many handgun owners want to have their gun close to their bedroom or office area but do not want to have a huge gun cabinet taking up additional space. Smaller handgun or pistol safes can be perfect for storage in a closet, drawer or even in a vehicle, keeping the weapon secured while still providing easy access as needed.
Wall safes are one option for a permanently mounted and located safe. These types of gun storage units come in a wide range of models and sizes. Most will hold two or more handguns and are can be recessed to fit into walls for a neat, out of sight type of mount. Other options may include safes that are mounted to an existing shelf or floor, with pre-drilled holes and hardware supplied to securely attach the safe in the location of your choice. Of course, a pistol or handgun safe can also be used to keep other valuables and many of the larger, permanent mount models have shelves and compartments for additional storage options.
Although wall mount types of safes for pistols or handguns do not have the carrying handles and style of the box types, they are still a good option for traveling with and transporting smaller weapons. Most weigh in at less than 35 pounds, making them easy to carry and move. For constant or frequent transportation of handguns a box style case is a great option and is considerably lighter than the wall styles while still providing a high level of protection for the weapon. Handles for carrying this type of safe can be located on the top or on the sides and, while they are designed for ease of transportation, they can also be mounted in a vehicle, home or office for a permanent gun storage option.
For specialized types of gun storage such as in businesses, offices or homes - a hide away or desk type gun safe may be the perfect answer. These safes mount under a desk, table or counter and are accessed with a simple mechanical type of lock that allows for quick, easy and discrete access to the weapon. These safes are front opening, allowing you to remove the weapon without a lot of extra movement.
For those that want a very secure personal handgun or pistol gun safe, one option to consider is a biometric lock or a digital electronic lock. Biometric locks are set to open only with accurate reading of a specific fingerprint that is set by the owner. These safes are relatively new on the market but are becoming increasingly popular. Digital electronic types of locks typically have a backup key system and, like the biometric locks, do require a battery to operate the lock. The batteries last a year or more, however to avoid any type of possible issue with low batteries in an emergency a yearly change of the battery is always recommended.

A revolver is a type of pistol. The revolver is the classic western sidearm that everybody can instantly recognize, it has a round cylinder behind the barrel. The round cylinder is where the bullets are stored and revolves (hence the name revolver) every time a bullet is shot, cycling a new bullet behind the barrel. I assume what you mean by "pistol/gun" is the other common type of pistol, the automatic (Though this name is misleading since automatic hand guns are actually semi-automatics, meaning that every time you pull the trigger only one bullet is fired. Fully automatic guns are usually called machine guns by the general public, and you hold down the trigger and multiple bullets are rapidly fired). This is the type of gun you'll most likely see police officers carrying. The two most common designs are the 1911 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1911_pistol ) and the glock ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glock ).
They each have their advantages and disadvantages, the revolver generally being more reliable/simple and accurate, and the automatic generally having more firepower (meaning automatics generally can hold more bullets and they are much faster to reload)
